Welcome to the Great Outdoors Tour!
Hit the trails and explore some of the metro’s best outdoor adventure destinations! If you’re craving fresh air, a forest canopy over your head, and a rocky trail under your feet, this is the tour for you. Featuring some of the city’s well-known nature parks, along with a few other local jewels found off the beaten path, you’ll be sure to discover local wildlife, serene sanctuaries and so much more. Nature is calling, and now you’ve got a map! The Great Outdoors tour will run 6/1/20 – 5/31/21.
The Locations
Line Creek Trail winds serenely through the beautiful countryside of Platte County. In any portion of the trail you’ll find a peaceful experience waiting for you. Follow the trail through wooded areas along the creek for a back-to-nature experience in the heart of the Northland.
Shawnee Mission Park features a 120-acre lake with swimming beach and marina, 11 shelters, numerous picnic areas, nature trails, play areas,
an archery range, a 44-acre dog off-leash area, an 18-hole disc golf course, mountain biking and hiking trails, equestrian trails, and is home to the
Theatre in the Park.

Black Hoof Park is a 231-acre park featuring 35-acre, deep-water Lake Lenexa. The park offers a unique dam and spillway, several miles of trails through open grass and wooded areas and fun natural play areas for children. You’ll be able to experience beautiful nature and observe a wide variety of wildlife.
Antioch Park is JCPRD's oldest and most popular park, attracting up to 700,000 visitors each year. Purchased in 1956 and opened in 1958, the 44-acre park includes amenities such as the two fishing lakes, walking paths, tennis courts, picnic shelters, basketball court, restrooms, the historic Dodge Town play area, and playground.
We have 4.5 miles of easy but winding trails on 39 acres.
Parkville Nature Sanctuary is a 115 acre natural outdoor area made accessible by nearly three miles of hiking trails.
Discover Nature at Burr Oak Woods! Burr Oak Woods is a showplace for Missouri's fish, forests and wildlife -- a natural oasis in your own backyard, just 1 mile north of I-70 and minutes from downtown Kansas City.
Cedar Lake is a 67 acre lake surrounded by a 57 acre community park originally dedicated in 1920.
